Around 100 people gathered on Tuesday to show their support for the Noor Ul Islam Mosque in Leyton following a racist attack by a man the previous week. Christian and Jewish faith leaders attended, alongside representatives from a range of left-wing, Green, and socialist organisations.
The new Green leader of Waltham Forest Council, Paul Perkins, inset was present. However, Labour MP Calvin Bailey and neighbouring MP Stella Creasy were notably absent.
The incident is a reminder that racist attacks can happen anywhere, regardless of where people live. It also underlines the importance of communities standing together in solidarity against racism and hate.
